SOCIOLOGY

                   Sociology is one of the youngest science,it emmerged as an  independent and seperate descipline only around the middle of the 19th century.The word sociology is derived from the Latin word 'societus' and Greek word 'logos' .The word 'societus' means the society and the word 'logos' means  science.Thus, etymological meaning of sociology is 'the study of society' or 'the science of society'.

Auguste Comte

                  August Comte is considered to be the father of sociology.He first used the word 'sociology' in his book "The course of positive philosophy" which is in french language(course de philosophic positive).Auguste Comte,Herbert Spenser,Emile Durkheim  and Max Waiver are known as the four founding father of sociology.Sociology has been defined by different sociologist in  different ways .According to L.T Hobhouse,"The subject matter of sociology is interaction of minds"
              Analyzing the views of different sociologist,sociology  is the scientific study of human social behaviour.It deals all about the study of human behaviour.It studies about social relationship and social action or social life.
              However there are  different definations given by different sociologist in different ways, the common idea underline is that sociology is concerned with man,his social relation and his society.Social relationship based on interaction is the common element which we find in sociology.So, sociology especially deals with the net of human relationship.Some of the major nature of sociology are as follows;
1)Sociology is a soceal science not a naturel science.
2)Sociology is a catagorical or posetive science but not a normative science.
3)Sociology is  pure science.
4)Sociology is abstract science not a concreate science.
5)Sociology is generalising science.
6)Sociology is both rational and an imperical science.
              Sociology plays vital role especially in the modern complex society.It is very important because it studies society in a scientific way.It is very much needed in human society inorder to achieve progress in various field.Similarly, it focuses on the social nature of man.It studies the role of the institutions in the development of the individuals.It also improves our understanding of society and increases the power of social actions.It helps to reduce the social problems and also in the solution of international problems.
               It also deals with the study of different sectors such as;rural,urban,special,political,economics,education,law,religion e.t.c.
