Scope and the topics of sociology

Scope of Sociology:
There is no argument with regard the scope of sociology.V.F Calberton comments "since sociology is so elastic a science,it is difficult ot determine just where it's boundaries began and end."However there are two schools of  thought who have given different views on the scope of sociology. They are
1)General science or  Synthesis school of thought:
Emile Durkheim
This school of thought consider sociology as a  synthesis of the social science. It aims to make sociology a general science  rather than a pure or special social science.According to this school, the field of social phenomena is so wide  that it is difficult to determine just well it's boundaries begin and ends.Durkheim,Hobhouse,Ginsberg  and Sorokin are the pioneer  of this school.Their main argument is that all  parts of school life are intimately intrelated.Socilogy study the social life as a whole. This opinion contributed to the creations of the general and the systamatic sociology or they conclude that socilogy is the science of sciences and all the social sciences are included under this scope.
2)The special science or formalistic school  of thought:
This school of thought is lead by the German sociologist George  Simmel followed by Vierkandt,Max Weber,A.W Small and Ferdinanad Tonnies.According to their opinion sociology is pure and an independent science. It has a  limited scope. It shouldconfirm itself to the study of human relationship only and should study only the forms of social realtionship but not their contains. Thus, according to them,Sociology is the specific social science which describes, classifies, analysis the forms  of social relationship.
